Psalm 47 (Listen)

47:1   Clap your hands, all peoples!
    Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
  For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared,
    a great king over all the earth.
  He subdued peoples under us,
    and nations under our feet.
  He chose our heritage for us,
    the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah
  God has gone up with a shout,
    the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
  Sing praises to God, sing praises!
    Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
  For God is the King of all the earth;
    sing praises with a psalm!
  God reigns over the nations;
    God sits on his holy throne.
  The princes of the peoples gather
    as the people of the God of Abraham.
  For the shields of the earth belong to God;
    he is highly exalted!

Devotional:

Sing praise to God, sing praise; sing praise to our King, sing praise! (Psalm 47:6 CSB)

There has been a movement in the last six Psalms from a feeling that God is far away to the confidence that God is very near. Often in our spiritual walk, there can be an ebb and flow to our perception of the presence of God. How will you respond to God’s nearness in your life? Let your heart, hands, and voice sing, clap, and shout with praise to the King of all Creation who is not only near, but constantly working to show you His everlasting, all-consuming, ever abounding love!

Pray it: Father, I praise you because you are king and reign over all the earth – and all the areas of my life. Help me offer you praise when I sense you are near so that I can keep praising you when I feel that you are far away. Amen.
