Psalm 149 (Listen)

149:1   Praise the LORD!
  Sing to the LORD a new song,
    his praise in the assembly of the godly!
  Let Israel be glad in his Maker;
    let the children of Zion rejoice in their King!
  Let them praise his name with dancing,
    making melody to him with tambourine and lyre!
  For the LORD takes pleasure in his people;
    he adorns the humble with salvation.
  Let the godly exult in glory;
    let them sing for joy on their beds.
  Let the high praises of God be in their throats
    and two-edged swords in their hands,
  to execute vengeance on the nations
    and punishments on the peoples,
  to bind their kings with chains
    and their nobles with fetters of iron,
  to execute on them the judgment written!
    This is honor for all his godly ones.
  Praise the LORD!

Devotional:

For the Lord takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation. (Psalm 149:4)

I praise and thank God because His people give Him pleasure. Have you considered that your existence gives God pleasure? Verse four says that he “adorns” His people with salvation. The word “adorn” means to enhance the appearance of or decorate as if with ornaments similar to a Christmas tree. Amazing, isn’t it, that the Lord of the universe thinks about us in that way? He takes great delight in people who honor Him and praise His name. When you are feeling low, remember that you are “the apple of God’s eye” (Psalm 17:8). Wear your salvation with honor and humility. Thank God for it.

Pray It: Father, it amazes me to know that you, the God who made all things, takes pleasure in me. Help me to take pleasure in you and find my ultimate delight in knowing you and following you. Amen.
