Psalm 126 (Listen)
126:1 When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion,
we were like those who dream.
2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
and our tongue with shouts of joy;
then they said among the nations,
“The LORD has done great things for them.”
3 The LORD has done great things for us;
we are glad.
4 Restore our fortunes, O LORD,
like streams in the Negeb!
5 Those who sow in tears
shall reap with shouts of joy!
6 He who goes out weeping,
bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy,
bringing his sheaves with him.
Devotional:
When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. (Psalm 126:1)
I praise and thank the Lord because He restores our fortunes and dreams. When we gather with family and long-time friends, we enjoy reminiscing about our shared memories. They have meaning because those blessings help to bind us together and we want more times of blessing with those we love. In this Psalm, the people remark, “Remember when God blessed us? It was beyond our wildest dreams!” After an exceedingly difficult time of tragedy and affliction, the Lord blessed His people to the point that other nations noticed and commented. Then the people called for God to bless them again the same way…abundantly! It is a time of great joy. Do you expect God to bless you abundantly? Do you call on Him to do it?
Pray It: Father, forgive me for my forgetfulness, of failing to remember all the blessings that you have bestowed upon me. Help me to remember the ways you have restored me in the past so that I might praise you today and have hope for tomorrow. Amen.
