Psalm 120 (Listen)
120:1 In my distress I called to the LORD,
and he answered me.
2 Deliver me, O LORD,
from lying lips,
from a deceitful tongue.
3 What shall be given to you,
and what more shall be done to you,
you deceitful tongue?
4 A warrior’s sharp arrows,
with glowing coals of the broom tree!
5 Woe to me, that I sojourn in Meshech,
that I dwell among the tents of Kedar!
6 Too long have I had my dwelling
among those who hate peace.
7 I am for peace,
but when I speak, they are for war!
Devotional:
In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. “Lord, rescue me from lying lips
and a deceitful tongue.” (Psalm 120:1-2)
I praise and thank God because He answers me and delivers me from people who lie. Lies are insidious and dangerous. They wound like arrows that have hit their mark. How is it possible to defend yourself? Many times, it is one person’s claim against the other, and the battle seems futile. The Psalmist calls on the Lord rather than thrash around in self-defense. God hears and answers; He knows the truth. Calmly allow God to intervene. Trust Him to deliver you in a way that will bring glory to His name.
Pray It: Father, I thank you that your Word is always truthful and right. Deliver me from my own tendency to lie and protect me from the lies of the evil one that circulate in this fallen world. Amen.
