Psalm 113 (Listen)
113:1 Praise the LORD!
Praise, O servants of the LORD,
praise the name of the LORD!
2 Blessed be the name of the LORD
from this time forth and forevermore!
3 From the rising of the sun to its setting,
the name of the LORD is to be praised!
4 The LORD is high above all nations,
and his glory above the heavens!
5 Who is like the LORD our God,
who is seated on high,
6 who looks far down
on the heavens and the earth?
7 He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the ash heap,
8 to make them sit with princes,
with the princes of his people.
9 He gives the barren woman a home,
making her the joyous mother of children.
Praise the LORD!
Devotional:
The Lord is exalted above all the nations, his glory above the heavens. Who is like the Lord our God— the one enthroned on high… (Psalm 113:4-5)
I praise and thank the Lord because there is no one like Him. It may seem as if these verses are telling us that God is distant and far away, but this Psalm is really praising Him for His majesty. Even though He is seated in heaven, He delights in being remarkably close to us. In fact, one of His names is Emmanuel which means “God with us.” This majestic God loves to assist people with their needs. What about your relationship with God? Are you distant, or is your heart open to His love for you?
Pray It: Father, I praise you for both being high in the heavens – greater than I can even imagine – yet also present with your people here on earth. Help me to live my life today in light of your nearness and your greatness. Amen.
