Philippians 3:13–14 (Listen)

Devotional:

Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,  I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14)

Think and Dream of What Lies Ahead

In Philippians 3 we see Paul pushing back against false teachers, explaining the reason he could boast and brag if he wanted to, and being honest about his own shortcomings of not being perfect or obtaining the righteousness of Christ. Then he gets to this powerful statement of forgetting what was behind him but pressing forward to what is ahead in Christ Jesus.

As you go forward this year, you have a choice – to look back at all your past years’ failures and flaws, or to look forward to the resurrection power of Christ and the prize of his accomplishment in your life. You will either look behind or forward. Would you be willing to look ahead to who God is calling you and transforming you to be instead of your past?. Take this week to press into a transformed life in Christ for his heavenly call in your life ahead. How will you press into Philippians 3:13-14, Hebrews 3:1, 1 Peter 5:10, and Romans 8:28 this year?
