Deuteronomy 4:29–31 (Listen)

29 But from there you will seek the LORD your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30 When you are in tribulation, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, you will return to the LORD your God and obey his voice. 31 For the LORD your God is a merciful God. He will not leave you or destroy you or forget the covenant with your fathers that he swore to them.

Devotional:

But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.  When you are in tribulation, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, you will return to the Lord your God and obey his voice.  For the Lord your God is a merciful God. He will not leave you or destroy you or forget the covenant with your fathers that he swore to them. (Deuteronomy 4:29-31)

Seek the Lord

Moses has just finished giving a reminder of the punishment for wandering and instructions to not worship celestial beings. He has just finished talking about how bad it was, and then we see this beautiful conjunction “BUT” to start this section off. This conjunction overrides what was before and calls for a refocus on what is ahead. The call is to seek the Lord with your whole heart, obey His voice, and never forget how merciful God is. As you look forward this year, will you daily seek the Lord with your whole heart? If you want to press for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ, you have to seek the Lord with all of you. You must weigh every decision, plan, goal, and venture in respect to who and what God is calling you to be. Seek His permission and desires for your life before you take any actions this year. (Also consider James 4:8 and Jeremiah 29:12-13.)
