Psalm 8 (Listen)

8:1   O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
  You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
  all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
  O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Devotional:

When I observe your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you set in place, what is a human being that you remember him, a son of man that you look after him? (Psalm 8:3 CSB)

This Psalm celebrates the wonder of God’s creation. It begins and ends with the declaration of God’s majesty in the earth. Many praise and worship songs reference God’s glory and majesty in creation. On a clear night, go outside and look at the moon and the stars and ponder the greatness of God. He calls them all by name, and yet He knows you personally and intimately. What an amazing God!

Pray it: Father, I praise you for your almighty power that brought this universe into existence and sustains and upholds all things. Keep me continually amazed by the fact that you, an infinitely powerful God, delights in me and knows and cares about every detail of my life. Amen.
